For the first time, the SpaceX starship has flown. It was created, among others, in order to take humans to Mars and the Moon. This ship will be like a plane to other planets, and people will live there, transforming these space neighbours into our new home.
It is still a prototype, and it is not going to work soon, but I really think that someday humans will for sure live in other planets. To explore the space and visit it has been always like an obsession for us, just because we can see it and we feel curious, just because it is there, as Mallory used to say with the Everest. And as reaching the Moon, that seemed impossible then, life in other planets is more than probable. The SpaceX starhooper shows that we are constantly trying to find a way to colonize the Solar System.
However, I do not think that it is necessary to live there, I really prefer live here, in Earth. But it is going to happen, and maybe the future generations will be able to get used to live there, just inside an artificial dome, but I think I would not. Well, if you have never lived in Earth you will never miss it. Humans, due to their rare intelligence do already live in Earth like anything does, we are far away from being animals, our aims in life, tools, habits are different in a way that any other animal, plant, or organism is from the others. We have created a new way to live, and go to other planets and get to live there is like the last step of our transformation, the evolution process of technology development. And it really it is similar to some moments of the evolution, like when water organisms left the oceans.
Probably the first reason to justify this project would be the fact that we are too much people in Earth, and that we could find more space and resources in other planets. I think that this could be easily solved reducing the Earth’s population, not with nuclear bombs but controlling how many children do families have. Tough, in non-developed countries this is not that easy and anyway it would take long. It is obvious that humans are overpopulating this planet, and just in case that we end destroying it as in films, some of us will be able to escape to Mars thanks to these people that has created this sheep. Just a plan B.
Anyway, I do not think that this is a waste of time and money, for sure that there are much worse investments, and it is perfectly compatible searching a new habitat with keeping the one we already have healthy.
