Due to our persistence, it seems that the millions of tons of plastics we have released in the nature have finally achieved their objective: plastics are being deposited and have created a layer in the fossil record. This is why, if humans are not yet extinct, the future generations will remember us: the humans of the plastic era.
Effectively, this plastic layer that for sure will increase is yet a little part of the Earth’s history. Scientists have suggested that it could be a way to mark the start of the Anthropocene, the era where humans have the power to dominate and transform radically the planet. Actually, I do not think that we are now more stupid or selfish, probably the problem is that technology and science developments have come too fast, and humans have not handled it well. An immense power came to our hands and we could not resist the temptation of use it. It was really difficult to contain because it was the society who had the power and not only one, and the fact that most of the people do not know what are the consequences of their actions.
This plastic layer is formed by micro plastics, which are everywhere, even inside us; they may be in the plastic bottles’ water, inside fish and salt. Oceans are full of this little particles and they all come from us. Surprisingly, the most of them are synthetic fibres from clothes. Apparently, our clothes are made of plastics, and every time we wash them lots of this fibres come off and pollute our water. Until someone decides to stop making plastic clothes, maybe we should start to wash them less frequently. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-48908413
And lately I was hoping that people are realising that plastic has to disappear a little bit of the world, but actually not. Sometimes I get mad at supermarkets because I see how clearly nobody thinks that all those plastics are going to end up in the sea, on the mountains and everywhere.
Most people know about it but do not think that it is a priority problem, because they do not see any of the consequences affecting us, and simply they do not do anything, like if it was already solved. It seems that everyone waits for something that will fix things little, and that is all. For example some plastic eaters bacteria, they were created a year ago, but i have not heard about their use. Maybe it is not that easy. bit.ly/2kxmT2k
But actually the consequences, if you are alert, are not hidden. Plastics are all over the sea and inside every single organism, now even in the fossil record. They are like a plague that pollutes thanks to our care. Such an interesting problem that may end bad.
